Path to Self-discovery
Being isolated can benefit us. Instead of feeling ostracized, one can make use of isolation to discover self.
We are often good at spending time and giving our valuable energy to unimportant or unnecessary things and people who have no role to play in the journey of our life but very bad at giving our time, energy and attention to self which is our life-long partner.
One cannot discover oneself in a group. It is our illusion to think that we are making progress when we work in a group. We are either dominated or influenced or distracted in a group.
Self-discovery is possible only when one isolates oneself from things and people and spends time with oneself in loneliness.
If good people give us memories, bad people give us experiences and moral lessons. Therefore it becomes necessary to have enemies who actually are our best critics and let us work on our weaknesses. These enemies aid in self-discovery.
People in the past became ascetics in an attempt to discover themselves. It is this quest that led them to enlightenment.
It is believed that the most difficult thing is to know thyself. Many people fail drastically in the preliminary attempt to devote time for themselves.
They keep themselves so busy that they create an excuse of having no time for themselves. They are either scared of knowing themselves or incapable of discovering the truth about themselves.
It is human psychology to detest the truth and so there goes the saying, ' Truth is always bitter' We all grew up listening to lies or speaking lies or impressing others with lies and that made us incapable of accepting the truth or reality.
We are allergic to truth because truth reveals the dirty side of us. It necessitates change and transformation. And as goes the truth, we are reluctant to change positively.
It requires guts and courage to confront the truth about things, people and especially ourselves. This itself paves way to inner realisation and transformation.
Literature aids in self-discovery as it gives philosophical insights and perspectives on life. Nature is another thing that is always there to inspire, insist, motivate and rejuvenate us at every stage but it demands our association and connection with it.
Nature is bigger, older, wiser, stronger, more perseverant, tolerant, forgiving, affectionate and studious than us. So it has more things to teach us. Our life time would fall short learning things from it. If we can give our time, energy and attention to it, it can aid in self-discovery.
Man has never been deceived or misguided or harmed in his attempt to associate with nature. It gives us unconditional love and just like our mother, insists us to transform for good.
Having understood the path to self-discovery, let's know why it is important to discover self. When we attempt to know something well or discover something, we become better in handling it and ensure it is taken care of.
Knowing thyself lets us discover our strengths and weaknesses, abilities and skills and gives us the power to tackle ourselves so well that we do not knowingly or unknowingly misuse our energies.
Moreover, we optimize them channelize the powers we have in right direction for right causes for right results.
Nature is always there to support and inspire us. Every aspect of nature is in the process of self-discovery. Every small thing can touch us in a bigger way.
It is not always the big and great things but more often it is the small things around us which bring about bigger transformation in us.
Big things are not achieved by doing big things. Big things are achieved when we do small things with great love, pure intention and devoted involvement.
The process has to be given more importance than the result. Result is never under our control, the process is.
When one does anything with pure interest and intention, good result becomes inevitable.
We, as humans, need to understand that we have a bigger role to play and our role in this vast universe begins the moment we discover ourselves.
