"A Letter to God"
Here is a poem on Lencho,
the main character from the lesson by Gregorio López y Fuentes. This poem
captures Lencho’s deep faith, hardship, and the message of hope:
"Lencho’s Faith"
Upon the hill where fields
did sway,
Lencho toiled day by day.
With sunburned hands and
hopeful eyes,
He prayed for rain from
clouded skies.
His crops stood tall, the
corn was near,
But nature’s grace did
disappear.
The storm arrived, the hail
came fast,
And all his dreams were lost
at last.
No food, no hope, the earth
lay bare,
But Lencho didn’t fall to
despair.
He wrote to God with steady
pen,
Believing help would come
again.
“Dear God,” he wrote, “I
need your aid,
A hundred pesos must be paid.
To feed my kids, to plant
and sow,
Only you can help me grow.”
The letter reached the
postman’s hand,
Who read the words and made
a plan.
With kindness deep, they
passed the hat,
And gave Lencho this and
that.
Though short the sum, the
help was true,
But Lencho doubted what men
do.
“God sent it all,” he
quickly said,
“But why did crooks take
part of my bread?”
Still through it all, his
faith stood strong,
A lesson in hope when things
go wrong.
For Lencho, though his field
was flawed,
Believed with heart — and
trusted God.
