Listening Task 3

CBSE- Assessment of Listening

Grade:____(English)                                                             Marks: 20

003 - Listening Task 3

You will hear five different people talking about their New Year resolutions. Listen to them very carefully and then correctly match the statements A to G with their respective speakers by writing 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 in the space provided.  Remember, there are two statements that belong to none of the speakers.

Speaker 1

My New Year resolution is to spend my time travelling the world.  I want to meet people of different nationalities, experience new cultures,  see places of tourist interest and do some fun and adventure activities.  I have put aside some money for the tour.Right now, I am busy preparing my itinerary.

 Speaker 2

I think it is useless to make any New Year resolutions for they are broken much too soon.  Why make tall and unrealistic promises that we cannot or do not want to keep?  As I have always done so far, I am going to live my life as it comes. I don't believe in making New Year resolutions for they make me feel bound.

 Speaker 3

I have neglected my studies too much.  This year, I propose to study hard and seriously,  so that I can achieve a perfect 10C GPA in my board examination.

For this purpose, I am going to cut down my TV time, give up my mobile phone and play station,  deactivate my social networking accounts and increase my study time.  However, I will continue to go out for walks and spend some time at the gym in order to stay fit.  That's my New Year resolution and I am going to keep it come what may.

 Speaker 4

My New Year resolution? Let me think.  I guess I would like to learn to play the keyboard.  I really want to do that.I am going to take up music as my hobby.  I have chosen to learn to play the keyboard because it gives me the option of playing a whole lot of instruments in one go.  If I learn fast and quick,  I think I may establish a band with a guitarist and a drummer friend of mine.

I have already bought a Roland keyboard and I am going to take lessons from a teacher soon after the end of the term examination.

 Speaker 5

This year, I am determined to bring about certain positive changes in my attitude.  I have promised myself that I am going to give up laziness and manage my anger. I look forward to spreading happiness and love among the people around me.  I also resolve to do something meaningful for society.  Some social work, some charity and stuff like that.

You will now hear all the speakers one more time.  As you listen, please check your answers.

That is the end of the listening task.

A Letter to God-CBQA

L:1-A Letter to God Competency-based Questions & Answers 1. People get support from family and friends during bad times. How does Lencho’s family behave after the harvest is ruined? Lencho’s family behaves with quiet acceptance and courage when the hailstorm destroys their entire harvest. Though they are deeply worried, they do not panic or blame anyone.  The family shows unity and courage in misfortune; instead of complaining, they remain dependent on Lencho’s strength and hope. They even supported his decision to write a letter to God. Most of the families would criticize such an act of starting a correspondence to God and would judge them as lunatic or insane. Lencho’s family trusted Lencho’s decisions and stood by him even when everything seemed hopeless. Their behaviour reflects how rural families often support one another during crises. Their calmness and faith show that strong family support is the greatest comfort in bad times. His wife let him understand the imp...
